Chopsado CD Case Packaging

There’s no denying it. I’m a video game nerd.  So I jumped at the opportunity to design this CD Case for a little device called the “Chopsado”.  It’s a homebrewed gadget that allows Japanese PC-Engine games to run on a US Turbografx-16 video game system and vice versa.  To most people, that last sentence was complete gibberish.  :)

I won’t go into a long-winded explanation, but the Turbografx-16 was a video game system in the late 1980s and early 1990s.  It’s main competition was the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Genesis.  It mostly went unnoticed, but still has a cult following, and I’m a member of that cult.

This packaging was inspired by packaging for “Shoot ‘em Ups” (or shmups) from that time.  In those games, the player typically controls a little space ship and has to fight through waves of enemy space ships.
